The better life, the community life…
Just across the Mississippi River from downtown New Orleans, a city where the populace breathes in Jazz and lives on the year-round carnival atmosphere of the French Quarter, is the community of Algiers – a place like no other in the city. Yes, Algiers is in New Orleans… Algiers is New Orleans….
In a way, Algiers is a state of mind. It’s a pride in community that flows throughout its manicured neighborhoods, lush green parks and tree-lined streets. It spills into local golf courses and country clubs, whispers in many new construction and civil improvement sites, and echoes throughout prime office and highly visible retail space.
Algiers also reflects the culture and diversity that makes New Orleans one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world. Algiers is the home to many musicians and artists such as Clarence Frogman Henry, world renowned musicians, Charles Gilliam, folk artist, Mark Rosenbaum, glass artist. It is also the home of one of the historical Mardi Gras Indian tribes and the corporate headquarters of the world renowned Mardi Gras World. Add to that the historic neighborhood of Algiers Point which is an eclectic and delightful community of new professionals, artists, and families that have lived in the community for generations. Stop by the Old Point Bar and enjoy live jazz music, a conversation with locals and tourists from around the world and the best view of the downtown New Orleans skyline. Visit the Algiers River Fest, an annual festival featuring local musicians, artists and restaurants and Wednesdays on the Point Concerts held every Wednesday from June through September in the Algiers Point Community. It is no wonder that the film industry has discovered Algiers as a great destination to film movies and conduct business.
And with quick and easy access to the New Orleans Central Business District, explosive commercial growth, rapid neighborhood development, a growing population of young professionals and families, excellent schools, and beautiful parks, Algiers lives up to its reputation as New Orleans’ gateway to great living.
Algiers offers businesses a close and convenient proximity to downtown New Orleans without congestion, parking issues and traffic. With premium office space available, high-visibility, upscale retail centers, prime land for development, and the largest per capita income of the metropolitan area, Algiers is the ideal location to base your company and watch its future grow.
Where it all began…
By 1803, the city of New Orleans had become a booming Southern port town, and had already earned its reputation as a truce center for cultural diversity and expression. As the population expanded to more than 8,000, residents began to spread into some of the outlying regions around the French and Latin Quarters. Bayou St. John and a number of regions both above and below the river became their homes.
As traffic on the mighty Mississippi increased, an area known as Algiers, located directly across from the French Quarter, became a center for shipbuilding and repair. The areas surrounding these operations were settled by their owners. And until the construction of the Greater New Orleans bridge in 1958, Algiers largely remained a city of extremely affluent shipbuilders and their workmen.
The opening of the bridge, now known as the Crescent City Connection, opened Algiers to those who sought the smaller, quieter and closer community lifestyle the region offered.
Today, Algiers maintains its foundations of quiet community living, removed from the hectic congestion of the city, while offering growth opportunities to businesses both small and large, and a quality of life that makes it an ideal setting to raise a family.
